Silverado High Country Defines Rugged Luxury

DALLAS – Like a finely crafted saddle or pair of custom-fitted boots, the 2014 Silverado High Country embodies rugged luxury – craftsmanship, authenticity and functionality rolled into a truck that’s stronger, smarter and more capable than ever.
It is Chevrolet’s first premium truck and one of the industry’s most capable, backing up an exclusive package of distinctive design elements, comfort and convenience features with segment-topping capability – including the segment’s most powerful V-8 and a 9,800-pound trailering rating.
It goes on sale this fall, priced at $45,100 (including destination charge) for 2WD models equipped with the standard 5.3L engine. The crew cab body is exclusive to the High Country, and it is available with a 5’8” or 6’6” cargo box.
Unique content includes a chrome grille with horizontal chrome bars, body-color front and rear bumpers – including Chevrolet’s CornerStep rear bumper – and specific 20-inch chrome wheels with P275/55R20 all-season tires. Additional standard equipment includes halogen projector headlamps, along with chrome body side moldings, door handles and mirrors.
Inside, Silverado High Country features an exclusive saddle brown interior. Heated and cooled perforated premium leather front bucket seats with High Country logos on the headrests are standard, along with Chevrolet MyLink connectivity with an 8-inch touch screen, Bose premium audio and front and rear park assist.
“There’s a Western flair to the High Country’s cabin that reflects the truck’s polished yet rugged stature,” said Maria Rohrer, Silverado marketing director. “It’s a passenger environment that’s equally adept when working a ranch during the day and stepping out for the evening.”
Optional features include a sunroof, navigation system and a rear-seat entertainment system with a BluRay/DVD player, as well as a High Country Premium Package that includes heated steering wheel, driver alert package, adjustable pedals and integrated trailer brake controller.
“Silverado High Country adds a higher degree of capability to the premium truck market and broadens the all-new Silverado’s lineup with a unique combination of exclusive features and purposeful technologies,” said Rohrer. “Its class-leading power is matched with the strong chassis and new suspension and drivetrain elements that make the 2014 Silverado 1500 the strongest, most capable and most refined truck in Chevrolet’s history.”
Launched earlier this year, the 2014 models contributed to a 13.9-percent jump in Silverado sales in August, while sales were up more than 25 percent for the first eight months of 2013.
Complementing capability
The Silverado High Country gives customers the capability they want with confident power to back it up, delivering a maximum payload of 1,957 pounds – more than Toyota Tundra and RAM 1500 – and a 9,800-pound towing capacity.
The EcoTec3 5.3L is the High Country’s standard engine, with SAE-certified at 355 horsepower (250 kW) and 383 lb.-ft. of torque (519 Nm), and class-leading V-8 fuel economy of up to 23 mpg highway (2WD models). The available, all-new EcoTec3 6.2L delivers is the segment’s most powerful V-8 engines, with an SAE-certified 420 horsepower and 460 lb.-ft. of torque.
Both engines feature direct fuel injection, Active Fuel Management and continuously variable valve timing, producing refined power and torque truck customers demand – and both seamlessly switch to four-cylinder mode to save fuel during light-load driving.
Each engine is matched with a six-speed automatic transmission featuring auto grade braking, which downshifts the transmission on downgrades to reduce brake wear. The brake system includes GM’s new Duralife rotors, which feature a hardened and strengthened surface to reduce corrosion, helping them last up to twice as long as conventional rotors and providing quieter braking with less vibration.
Additional chassis and powertrain details include:
  • Electric power steering, which helps save fuel and enables a more consistent, crisp steering feel and plenty of assist for parking maneuvers
  • New, larger rear axles with the strength to accommodate the engines’ higher outputs
  • Standard locking rear differential with 3.42 ratio
  • Standard trailering package, with frame-mounted trailer hitch, seven-pin and four-pin connectors
  • Trailer sway control is standard and works with StabiliTrak to provide an added measure of confidence when towing a trailer.
A fully boxed frame with the main rails and major cross members formed from high-strength steel provides a rigid base for maximum hauling capability, as well as greater noise and vibration isolation – contributing to the Silverado High Country’s balance of segment-best capability and industry-leading refinement.
The stiff chassis enables more precise tuning of the front and rear suspensions, giving the Silverado a more responsive feel with smoother performance and less vibration and shake, particularly on harsh terrain.

'Strong’ 2014 Chevy Silverado Anthem Debuts July 4

  • Song written especially for Silverado
  • Spot airs first in Texas markets, rolls out nationally later in July
  • DETROIT – The all-new 2014 Chevrolet Silverado will be celebrated in a marketing campaign created to speak to the heart of the full-size pickup market. The campaign, featuring an original song by Grammy-nominated recording artist Will Hoge, begins exclusively in Texas, where one of every six pickup trucks in the U.S. is sold.
“There is no more appropriate place to launch the new Silverado campaign than in Texas, the heart of truck country, and no better way to launch it than through music,” said Tim Mahoney, Global Chevrolet chief marketing officer. “The song “Strong” celebrates Silverado owners who are as dependable and capable as their trucks.”
Originally developed as a song, “Strong” will debut July 4 as a music video, digital download and in a television ad.
The Silverado anthem was created with pickup truck drivers and their values in mind. Most of the people who appear in the video are real Chevrolet owners, not professional actors. The lyrics to Hoge’s song speak to the strength of hardworking, honest and dependable men and women. Also, a tone of American pride is reflected in the launch date of July 4.
“Chevrolet has a long-standing relationship with music, and Chevys have been mentioned in more than 800 popular songs,” said Mahoney. “The lyrics to ‘Strong’ were inspired by the Silverado and the people who drive them. We think this original song and our all-new Silverado harmonize perfectly.”
The Silverado marketing strategy begins with the song, but rolls out both in Texas and throughout the country during the second half of 2013. Interactive Silverado displays and ride-and-drives began in June across Texas. Nationally, Silverado marketing plans include customer activities at NASCAR races, music venues and sporting events, as well as a partnership with the National Volunteer Fire Council.
The Silverado campaign fits within Chevrolet’s brand platform, Find New Roads. Future ads will focus on the features of the Silverado, including its class-leading V-8 fuel economy and towing capability.
The 2014 Silverado 1500 is an all-new version of Chevrolet's best-selling vehicle in the U.S. All-new from hood to hitch, Silverado is designed to be the best-engineered and more refined full-size pickup. With its trio of new EcoTec3 engines, it offers the best fuel economy of any V-8 pickup with class-leading payload and towing capabilities. Silverado crew cab models are arriving at dealerships nationwide. Regular and double cab Silverados will go on sale later this summer, followed this fall the Silverado High Country premium model.

    2014 Stingray Performance!

DETROIT Chevrolet released official performance estimates today for the 2014 Corvette Stingray, the most capable standard Corvette ever. Equipped with the available Z51 Performance Package, the new Stingray is capable of accelerating from 0 to 60 mph in 3.8 seconds, braking from 60 to 0 in 107 feet, and sustaining 1.03 g in cornering.
Cumulatively, the acceleration, cornering and braking capability of the Corvette Stingray enabled it to lap the Virginia International Raceway’s (VIR) 4.2-mile “Grand Course” in 2:51.78.
“For the new Stingray, we set out to elevate every aspect of the Corvette’s performance,” said Tadge Juechter, Corvette chief engineer. “Considered alone, the acceleration, braking and cornering performance of the Corvette Stingray is truly impressive. More significant is how well they work together, resulting in a lap time at VIR that places the new Stingray in the upper echelon of all sports cars.”

    Acceleration from 0-60 MPH3.8 seconds
    ¼ mile acceleration12 seconds @ 119 mph
Braking distance from 60 to 0 MPH107 feet
    Maximum lateral acceleration1.03 G
    VIR ‘Grand Course’ Lap2:51.78

The lap around VIR was conducted in Stingray equipped with the available Z51 Performance Package and Magnetic Ride Control. The vehicle that conducted the lap was modified only with safety features like a racing seat and harness, and fire extinguisher system.
“The new Stingray constantly communicates feedback to the driver, which makes you feel incredibly confident behind the wheel,” said Jim Mero, Corvette vehicle dynamics engineer. “That confidence encourages you to attack each corner because the Stingray drives so well: the tire grip is incredible; the steering response is some of the best I’ve ever experienced; the Magnetic Ride dampers allow little body roll through the corner, while still soaking up the rumble strips when you clip the apex,” he said. “It’s just addictive on the track.”
The 2014 Corvette Stingray coupe goes on sale in the third quarter of 2013 for a suggested starting retail price of $51,995, excluding tax, title, and license fees. The $2,800 Z51 Performance Package includes an electronic limited-slip differential; dry-sump oiling system; integral brake, differential and transmission cooling; as well as a unique aero package that further improves high-speed stability. Magnetic Ride Control with Performance Traction Management is a $1,795 option. A Corvette Stingray equipped like the test car used at VIR would cost $56,590.

Ed Carpenter with Chevrolet V6 Power Wins the Pole for the 97th Running of the Indianapolis 500

INDIANAPOLIS (May 18, 2013) – Ed Carpenter fulfilled a life-long dream today by winning the pole for the Indianapolis 500. In his own Ed Carpenter Racing No. 20 Fuzzy’s Ultra Premium Vodka Chevrolet V6, Carpenter put up a blistering four-lap average speed of 228.762 mph to earn the right to lead the 33-car field to the green flag of the 97th running of the Greatest Spectacle in Racing.

With deep roots in Indiana making him a local hero at famed 2.5-mile Indianapolis Motor Speedway, Carpenter became the first owner/driver to win the pole since 1975.

“This is a good start,” said Carpenter. “I want to make sure we keep the team focused. I hope this is part one of a really magical month, and we're here for race day. This is awesome and it's bigger than our wins and it's huge for the team. It's definitely a landmark day, but I don't want to get overly focused on this because we have a lot of work to do yet.”

Andretti Autosport teammates, rookie Carlos Muñoz, No. 26 Unistraw Chevrolet, and Marco Andretti, No. 25 RC Cola Chevrolet qualified second and third respectively to give Chevrolet the front row for the 200-lap/500-mile race on May 26, 2013.

“Congratulations to Ed Carpenter and the entire team at Ed Carpenter Racing for putting the No. 20 Fuzzy's Vodka Chevrolet on the pole for the 97th running of the Indy 500,” said Chris Berube, Chevrolet Racing Program Manager for the IZOD IndyCar Series. “It was an impressive collection of laps Ed put up in the final qualifying session. Also, congratulations to Andretti Autosport teammates Carlos Muñoz and Marco Andretti on qualifying for the front row. The focus for Chevrolet, our V6 powered teams and drivers, and our technical partners remains on the ultimate goal - winning the Indianapolis 500-mile race on May 26th.”

Fifteen of the 17 drivers in Chevrolet V6 powered cars have secured starting positions for next weekend’s Indianapolis 500.

E.J Viso, A.J. Allmendinger and Will Power qualified fourth, fifth and sixth to secure second row starting positions on the grid. Defending IZOD IndyCar Series champion Ryan Hunter-Reay, three-time Indianapolis 500 winner Helio Castroneves and James Hinchcliffe will make up the third row of the starting field.

Other Team Chevy drivers also locked into the top-24 starting positions from the first day of qualifying are JR Hildebrand, Tony Kanaan, Oriol Servia, Sebastien Bourdais, Townsend Bell and Simona De Silvestro.

A one-hour practice session is scheduled for Sunday morning from 9:00 to 10:00 a.m. with Bump Day qualifying being held from noon to 6:00 p.m. NBC Sports Network will broadcast live from noon to 6:00 p.m. (Verizon FiOS 90/590, DirecTV 220, DISH 159 and AT&T UVerse 640). In addition, qualifying will be broadcast by the IMS Radio Network, including on Sirius and XM Channels 211 and www.indycar.com.
